Valve job on Lexus 300 1998 Sign In

A friend is offering me his Lexus 300 for $700. It is a 1998 with 230,000. I just need a car to get back and forth to work with (a second car for our household). Approximately 7k miles per year commuting. The car needs a valve job and he was quoted $2100 for the work. Another mechanic quoted him $1650. Why the difference? Is it worth it to sink the money in the car. I would hope it would last 2-3 years for the money. Thanks!!!

Not with that kind of mileage. You can't do a valve job to that engine because the rest of the engine couldn't handle it. That car is pretty much used up and I wouldn't invest a nickel into it.
