Water Pump... What to put in it for Winter Sign In

Yes. I get it, water goes into the water pump. But is there anything else that goes in there to prevent the water from freezing? Main serpentine belt snapped while I was driving caused engine to overheat and to use all the water out of the pump. Got a new belt on and a new alternator (Alternator pulley was the culprit) Now I just want to know what needs to be put into the water pump so it doesn't freeze... Canadian problems.

2007 Honda Civic EX 1.8L SOHC 227,000km thanks everyone

You need to take the word "water" out of your vocabulary. The ONLY thing you ever add to the cooling system is a 50/50 mix of the correct coolant for that car.

You need to keep your fingers crossed also that you didn't severely overheat that engine because it will do severe internal damage immediately.

You also need to be sure to get all the air pockets out of the cooling system when you fill or it will overheat again.

Thank you for the advice, duly noted. Will get it taken somewhere for full fluid flush then.

That takes Honda blue coolant from the dealer. It is premixed, so you pour it straight in. If you have straight water in the system, you have to drain it, including the engine block, before putting Honda blue in.
