Hi everyone, I've been having some complications with my Mazda recently, and I was hoping someone here would be willing to shed some light. I purchased the car several months ago, and it was running great for a while, but recently the cars been acting up a bit. Specs: 2008 Mazda 3i Automatic Transmission 2.0L Engine 89,000 miles. Symptoms: Loud engine while in Park. Once it's in Drive, the loud rumble mostly goes away. After driving for a bit, the transmission doesn't want to go to 4th gear. Sometimes I'll literally be going 70mph, and it'll stay in 3rd gear or I can't get the car past 40mph. I'll literally be flooring the accelerator. I got the car back from a mechanic; they suggested spark plugs to be changed, a fuel induction cleaning, new passenger side motor mount, new brakes and rotors. I did all of this myself except for the fuel induction, as I didn't have the money to do that yet. I did add the Techron additive in hopes it will help the engine until I can get the induction done. When I popped the hood to change the spark plugs, I noticed the 1st ignition coil wasn't mounted, and the bolt was no where to be found. I replaced the bolt, and made sure not to over tighten it with my torque wrench. The car felt pretty good again! A little rough, but nothing compared to before. A week or two goes by, and the car sounds loud, the steering wheel is vibrating again. It's not hitting 60 or 70mph as it should, and the gears are slipping again... I popped the hood, and I see again, that the 1st ignition coil is loose. This time, the mounting point where the bolt goes is split, with all kinds of gray/brown goop around it. I've added a link to some pictures below. Sorry for the long post, but any insight as to what may be causing this, and how to fix/prevent it would really mean a lot! Thank you everyone! No, that's not oil. It looks like some kind of epoxy that someone used to try to repair the broken valve cover. You just need to replace the valve cover. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
