What's the Damage??? Sign In

2007 Toyota Camry 4-Cylinder

HI, I'm driving down the road and my car started loud with this noise like I broke a piston, the oil light came on at the same time. Pulled over, put more oil
in it, little improvement with the noise and drove it slowly back to my garage.

Please view my video of this noise and tell me what you think it is
https://youtu.be/yS67X3gQbgg

Thanks, Brad

Bummer Brad. (moved second post same out of the way pls don't do that)
OK Too late now you drove it but which oil warning light was on - low level or oil pressure? It must have been lack of oil pressure below threshold or expect catastrophic engine damage.
Why is unknown for the moment. What you need to do is just mechanically test oil pressure if only a real good cranking speed it's gotta be to low.
If there's a chance then if oil level is full the reason is it can't pump it or leaks down rapidly before getting to all places intended and mandatory. Unless it really did run low not real sure why out of the blue but stuff just happens sometimes without great reasons.

One could be sludged up oil that can't return to crankcase is the oil change intervals or type of oil all wrong? Another could be fuel in the oil an injector can do that leaking down dilute oil becomes abrasive and so thin isn't a lubricant.

Any reason to instantly now make that noise is seriously not good. Hope you can test oil for fuel odor is a clue and oil pressure without letting it run anymore if too low and expect it to be oil pump was the reason but I'd expect even if that's done this engine will never be right again be ready for that,
