base timing a 4.3l Sign In

hi all

i seek your 2 cents worth. my 2 cents worth is getting me more lost...

'90 4.3l in a '89 k1500. it was overheated, brought to meto do the heads. they machined flat and went together, i unpluged the tan/bk wire to set the base timing and the durm thing will start @0 degrees run a few seconds then jump 12 degrees.....in the timing light, start dropping rpm then die, yes the tan/bk is still unplugged. any one is welcome to jump in here, i am doin some serious head scratchin'

Not certain but this engine may not use #1 cylinder for base timing. Someone here will know for sure,
