Hey I have a pontiac grand am 2000 and I replaced my battery today and it ran fine!! Then about two hours later I tried to start my car and turned it on then after about 19 seconds it just turned off and after that I tried starting it and it just crinding. Then I moved the shift out of netural and into drive and then moved it back into netural then tried to restart it and It started, test drove it and it was fine. After that the car started fine with no grinding but then about six hours later I tried to start it again but it was grinding and like it did not want to start but It did start. There was no prior problem with the starting till I replace that batter. I think it may be a wireing problem or maybe the starter not sure. Whats your thoughts, Thanks Mike

starter gear binding on starter plate. take the plate off and check for wearing on the plate or starter gear.
