own a 1999 mercury sable 150000 miles and it doesn't want to start when i turn the key everything works(radio,lights.etc) but it just does not start. help what is wrong with my car? before this happened it made a sound like the belts needed lubrication someone said it was the water pump and then someone said i needed a new starter

As in nothing happens; the starter motor is not even cranking the engine.
Or is the starter motor cranking (turning) the engine but the engine does not fire.
In other words; when you turn the ignition key can you hear the starter motor doing the NANANANANA thing without the vroom of the engine coming to life? Or there isn’t even the NANANANA thing happening?

Big difference on what the problem(s) could be.

Ok any of the regulars here, no laughing at my questions. I bet we’ve all made those sounds; at one time or another trying to figure out what a customer is trying to tell us. LOL

no it doesn't even go NANANANAN it makes like 2 clicking noises and thats it
it has gas, (since we women always forget to check that hahaha) did the jump start and nothing.I guess the proper way of saying it, it doesn't turn over

1st thing to do would be to clean the battery terminal with a wire brush especially on the inside, maybe have the battery tested while it's out. If nothing still, get under the car & rap on the starter gently a few times with a hammer & see if that helps. After that, it's gonna be time to break out the voltmeter................
