diesel engine loping

Hello, I have a 11/96 (97) ford Super duty It don't identify if its a 350/450? It has a 7.3L diesel with 204000 miles on it. I pulled codes and found a p0344. I installed a new cam sensor. I have checked fuel pressure and its at 55 psi. I have looked over all the major components and found nothing unusually wrong. The problem its having is loping on startup. Its not really a engine miss but a lope. If you simply give some throttle for a few seconds it clears right up. There is no lack of power or surging while driving. I changed the fuel filter as well and drained the water separator. Im thinking it may be sucking air into the fuel system upon shut down but how will i know? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks, The Fuzzy1

If it was sucking air this would be low on power and missing like crazy at all times, so I don't think that is the issue. Do you have access to a professional scan tool that can view data? I'd be interested in knowing if the ECM is actually getting the cam signal or if the code remains present. Did you test wiring at the cam plug when you changed it? Is this only at idle speed during startup or will it act up at idle when its warm? Does it start unusually hard?
