the driver door on my jetta III csx 1997 (manual windows, central locking) cant open from inside only when its about 8degrees outside. wen its freezing cold, both the handles (inside and outside) just swing in vain. winter is approaching fast and i wonder how much trouble is awaiting me always having to use the passenger's door every morning.

General on that: The latch mechanism is inside and you really need to take door panel off to lube it well. I'd choose WD-40 for both its water displacing properties and it lubricates without too heavy an oil. Use some from outside as well but most can't reach the hidden stuff of the latch and its springs, slides that allow its action, T

Having bought the WD-40 lubricant as you recommended, do i now need a specialist to apply it in the inner parts of the door panel or you can give me some instructions on how to go about it. i havent seen a screw on those doors.

IT"S APRIL /MAY AND WINTER IS APPROACHING FAST ?????? Where in the heck are you ? As s for you panel not familier with that model but in , vee w u's look around handle / armrest for small plugs athat pull out with screws behind them. check at bottom of panel by slideing a butter knife or similar behind panel and gently prying out , theres often pull out pins . Feel carpet areas for screw heads . LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

thanx re-tired. yeah tom is right. i found all the screws and panel clips and safely removed them. the only thing i cant remove is the window lever. its so difficult snapping it off with a flat screwdriver and i'm afraid i'll smash it if i apply extra effort. what am i missing? how is it removed from the panel?

I forgot the window crank . There is a small R shaped clip behind the handle . It takes a special thin spatula shaped tool to slide behind the handle and push it off. The tool is fairly cheap and can be bought at most parts houses. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

Here's what the tool looks like Here is a trick that will work if you don't have the tool ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

HT posted some good pictures so you have an idea of what the clips looks like, along with a good tip to get it off without the tool. Another trick I use when I'm too lazy to walk over to my box & grab the tool, is gently push the panel in far enough so you can see the clip, then using a hook probe just hook the "hump" part of the clip & pull it off (being careful to try to keep it from flying across the shop). You don't need a probe for this any small hook would work, you could make one out of a paper clip. Putting it on is easy just put the clip on the crank & snap it on.......Just make triple sure of the crank position before you take it off...... while not critical it does bug some people to have the cranks of both doors in different positions when the window is all the way up...........

No problem. Sidom had some good tricks with the paper clip too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

thanx guys. this clip is a bid different. it's actually built inside a ring so it was even simpler just moving the ring the same direction as you showed me. Everithing is cool now, both the inside and outside levers are functioning properly.
