engine has rattle Sign In

Hi everyone this is my friend's chevy equinox 2.4 engine, the engine is rattling, and when we scan it it has two codes, one for crankshaft and the other says exhaust cam shaft plausible don't know what exactly that means, what should we do first we need your advice thank you all. one more thing we couldn't locate the brake booster.

Year? Code numbers? Can you post a video of the noise?

Hello there thank you for the response, the codes are p0017 and p0016 the crankshaft, and camshaft sensors. what are my options here to just replace the sensor?.

Where does the ratting noise sound like it is coming from? Got a vid?

it sounds like it's coming from the timing belt cover.

I believe that engine has a chain. If the chains are rattling around it, they might be lose or stretched out. They could also have a tensioner or guide issue causing the chains to be loose. A timing chain that is loose and slapping around can cause those codes to pop up because it throws off the cam timing.
