I have been working on a 1999 ford f350 super duty ..with a 7.3 diesel engine. The glow plugs don't work so I tested the glow plug relay and replaced it. But the problem is when I hooked the new relay up the glow plug worked but would not shut off... also it would drain the battery very quickly . So is it a bad ground? or something else?

I know virtually nothing about diesels, but the glow plugs draw a LOT of amperage. A LOT. If the battery (ies) are not up to snuff, it'll suck that sucker (the battery) down in a heartbeat. If the battery voltage is low enough, the relay may stick closed. I've seen starters continue cranking after ignition off due to low battery voltage. Sounds impossible, but...

First of all thank you for your reply !

If I put the jumper box on it and turn the key on the battery just drains but if I unhook the relay it doesn't drain the battery.

Hopefully, someone with diesel knowledge will jump in here. I'm thinking that it could be a faulty injector that is shorted to ground? Or, just weak battery?

I want to thank you for your help ! I also think it maybe a ground ... but not sure where .

I guess it's the process of checking wires.

I hate doing wiring.
