my 1996 honda passport was working fine then all of the sudden my air conditioner was not working, my battery was at 0 volts and some of the light in the dash came on. I can not start it up now. could it be the battery or the altinator????

I take it this happened while driving? If the alternator quit for any reason the battery would drain down and the car would stop running - quite a while before you would actually read ZERO for volts though? A shorted battery could take down the car also and would give you a ZERO reading with a separate meter. Hey - It's probably needing the alternator but do yourself a favor and if the battery is over 3-4 years old get a new one of those too. Charge the old battery if you keep it with a charger not just the car as it's too low and any battery that low needs to be charged separately or it can kill a good alternator trying, T
