ok I realize my problem isnt as bad as other peoples but its still scarin me. Yesterday and the day before I was able to start my 04 Mitsubishi Outlander up fine and get it out on the main road but then i stopped at light and the engine just shutoff while i was stopped. Im able to start it back up afterwords but its worrying me I know i need an oil change but evryone has said that wouldnt cause it. Does anyone have any ideas? Kim

Being late on an oil change wouldn't do that. This will be tricky as it starts right up for you so it doesn't leave much to test out. Does it run well otherwise? Does it feel like the idle is too low? One more - Do you have check engine light on? If so some large chain parts stores will read it for you for free I think. ________________________ Check your oil level if you are going be later in getting that done, T

I think that idle of 500 is too low and is controlled by the car's computer to stay high enough not to stall like a sudden stop, cold starts, turning corners and lots of conditions including the load of A/C. If you haven't kept up with some periodic maintenance there are some real important items that will be marked in your owner's manual and should inspect the item or just replace it. Most important is replacing rubber timing belts when they say to. Good time to bring up the shop of your choice. Let us know how it's going, T

Autozone or Advanced Auto will check your engine lights for free. However, a computer analysis is really needed as sensors are so expensive. It's a hit and miss thingie so computer is best.

I can't say for 100 percent, but if you have vacum assist brakes/ vacum booster for the brakes, the diaphram maybe leaking air past it, causing loss of vacum to engine, thus stalling the engine.
