I'm 18 and not really good with cars, so if any one can help me out before i do something and use money i didn't have to it would be a big help.so this saturday i went into a deep puddle, then all of the lights went out and had no power in the car. i let the car sit for one night then came back the next morning to jump start it. the car would start once connected to another car but once i took off the positive connection the car starts to die down till the batterys dead. would it be that water killed my alternator and not charging the battery? some one plz help! 1995 mazda mx3 precidia 1.6 engine 183k

Make sure belt it in place and tight enough first. Also any wiring that may look lousy or disconnected. Can't say what this puddle did?? Charge the battery if all is in place first. Then try again and watch for volts to climb to around 14v when running. If not the alt may have failed and can be checked off car if you wish before buying a replacement, T

And, never take the battery cable off while the car is running! Was okay, back in the old days, when Tom and I were 18. We had generators back then, not alternators. Sorry, Tom. Couldn't help it. Loren SW Washington

I didn't have these issues with my first car! Geeeze! That and the mule knew better than to go thru puddles and would toss you off. Just had to remeber to remove the crank handle before you caught it in your "calyones" (sp?) as JIM would know T

Cajones. (ku-ho-nees) Spanish for family jewels. I think there's supposed to be one of them funny little symbols above the 'n', but don't know how to do that. Loren SW Washington
