mystery car problem Sign In

I own a 2004 Mitsubishi galant, I've been having this problem for a little while now and can't seem to figure out what the problem is, so I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to help me out, sometimes when I first start my car and take off I notice my car feels like im pushing the gas at first even when i'm not, it's gotten up to at least 20 before without me even setting my foot on the gas, and then when I stop my car at first it feels like its still trying to accelerate even though my foots on the break and I'm completely stopped almost like its "pushing" to go forward, my car also has a rough idle which was making me think this problem could maybe be the spark plugs,I've also noticed sometimes when Im going uphill my car will start making this weird metal on metal banging noise every once in a while, ill usually let up on the gas and proceed to driving and it goes away 100% of the time, I've only had my car stall once since ive had this problem but im thinking that had more to do with the hole I had in my flex pipe, also when I went to start my car tonight after pumping gas it sounded like it almost wasnt gonna crank over so i'm thinking this problems gonna get bad fast , does this sound like the spark plugs?

Get code readings and post the numbers of what you find. BTW - there's no "pumping gas" with the pedal like you may think - it's fuel injected and only knows your throttle position not just adding fuel so a waste of foot effort.

Banging noise? Are motor mounts all good? Seems like you may be tilting this engine assy more than it should,

Which engine? I agree, retrieve trouble codes and write down the numbers. What rpm is the engine idling at?

Spark plugs won't make the engine idle high, but could cause misfiring if they go bad or foul out. Pumping the accelerator pedal while cranking the engine only confuses the ECU. It's not carbureted, so pumping the accelerator isn't necessary.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
