oil pressure

|
|
Hello there, i have a 99 GMC Jimmy. Its a V6, but im not sure of engine size, 4.3 maybe, and its got 345km on it. i have noticed the oil pressure fluctuating once it gets hot, and i was wondering if that was normal. i dont recall seeing that before and i recently overheated due to punctured hose. when i start the car the gauge reads somewhere between half and three quarter, as the oil warms the gauge will drop to one quarter mark at idle and increase with engine speed up to its original starting position. Get back to me whin you can and thanks in advance :)

If you indeed have over 300k on this motor , you have got your moneys worth out of it . More than likely it loosing pressure at mains, rods and cam bearings . Going to a 10w40 may buy a little time . LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

The conversion is 215K miles but that is still a lot of miles and having some oil pressure issues wouldn't be a surprise. It's too late for any sort of "patch" repairs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

changed your oil & filter lately above the oil filter is an aluminium part that the oil filter screws on take it off and see if the bypass (a phenic disc and spring is stuck open) put a mechanical oil pressure on it . It could just be a faulty sending unit that is reading low on a count of the heat . Good Luck

olds40316, this one is two months back. Please feel free to read archived posts, but limit your responses to ones that have been active in the last week or two. When you post to an old thread, the original poster and everyone else who posted to that thread gets a notice in their email of a new post reply. I wastes a lot of time. You're new here and didn't know, so in the future please bear that in mind.
