oil pump/drive gear Sign In

I have a 1993 dodge dakota 3.9L that i had to replacet the block on I used everything out of my old block except the camshaft and lifters now the oil pump has broken three times what could be causing thisUnsure

Not sure what you mean; is the oil pump failing or the drive gear for the pump. If it’s the gear and it’s the gear from the original engine; it may not be the same pitch on the gear’s teeth to match the cam? The cam being made of a harder metal; it might be grinding the teeth off of the oil pump gear? Or the camshaft’s gear’s teeth are worn and its grinding the oil pumps teeth off?
I’ve seen some cam gear’s teeth so badly worn; that you would cut your finger, if you were to run your finger over its edge. But at the same time; worn so evenly; that you would have too look very close, to see the wear.
You may end up replacing the camshaft and the gear; making sure that the two belonged together.

i have the cam that went with the gear that i put in it and i will replace it i was thinking along the same lines as your advice thanks
