overheating 93 civic

I have a 93 civic with a 1.6 and the other day it overheated. I let it cool and filled it up with water until i got home drained the water and filled with 50/50. now every time i go somewhere and the motor warms up the coolant bubbles into the overflow and on the ground. I took the cap off the radiator and noticed that lots of air is being pushed into the coolant system. do u think i have a bad head gasket? no oil and water mix. Sometimes the heater goes cold and there is little steam coming from exhaust.

Yep, sounds like you got it a little too hot and blew a head gasket. A chemical test would confirm that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Make sure that your electric cooling fans are working also. Have seen plenty of Honda with blown head gaskets because the cooling fans motors have failed. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

ok I watched the video and its pretty obvious that I have a bad head gasket. I have big bubbles of air coming out of my radiator and I can smell the exhaust. The fan works. just to conform that. Would a plugged radiator blow the head gasket?

It's the temperature that warps the aluminum head, regardless of what caused the original overheating. If you don't shut it down quick enough, the damage is done.

It's good that your asking these questions as to why the head gasket blew in the first place. A good mechanic not only replaces a defective part, but also determines why the part failed, so it doesn't happen again. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
