slows down '04 6.0 f250 Sign In

I have a '04 f250 w/6.0.. The issue im having is that when going down hill the truck wants to slow down. 10 to 15degree plus downgrade... When in neutral the truck rolls fine but when in drive just slows down.. I can feel it also on level ground when I lift off accelerator.. And im getting really horrible fuel mileage.. around 11 per gallon when I used to get about 17.. But other than that truck runs and sounds great...thanks for listening

I'm not a diesel tech, but Nick the mod is one and might see this thread.

Does this truck have an exhaust brake installed?

Are you in Tow/Haul mode when this happens? Any recent work done on this? Have you ever needed work on your EGR, head gaskets or FICM? Are there any trouble codes being stored? If so what are the codes?

Re: slows down Sign In

Have you confirmed no fault codes with a scanner or just going by no engine light on? If the latter is the case make sure it does light up when you first cycle the key forward. If it doesn't the light doesn't work. It sounds a bit like a trans issue to me, and might be worth letting a trans shop check over.

Re: slows down Sign In

It looks like all the lights are working when key is turned.. ill have a scanner check done in the next couple of days.. there is a woaa woaa woaa when over 55ish but its not that loud but you can hear it.. when im on the highway ill put it in neutral and it goes away.. but like I said you really have to listen for it to hear it.. I put a new trans sensor in 4 months ago because it would go into towhaul and wouldn't come out with the light blinking.. the sensor solved that issue.. but it was happening before that.. I will tell you this when I did the sensor and fluid change it ran wonderful for about 2 weeks then right back to where it was.. I appreciate you helping out and your time Nick.. thank you for that

Re: slows down Sign In

No problem. Its what we do here. Let us know what you find. Perhaps it could be a job you are able to do yourself and we can walk you through the steps. Save a bit of cash that way. Because changing out the fluid corrected this temporarily before, you may be looking at a new trans but it would need to be confirmed before you drop that kind of money. If you're good with your hands you could save coin doing the swing work yourself and taking just the trans to the shop for rebuild if it comes to that.
