smoking out exhaust pipe. Sign In

I have a 1990 Honda Civic. I took the car to get inspected during the emmissions test, car started to smoke out exhaust pipe at 2500 RPM. the car was suppose to have had a valve job done. What would cause it to start smoking during test? Also I tried to start it the other day, would turn over but would not start, check engine light was on so I popped the hood checked, oil down a quart, added a quart and it started right up.

There's more going on here than meets the eye. One qt low shouldn't disable starting. Now that it's running that's a mystery. The smoke at 2500rpm may just be the a weak link gave up. Engines don't like no-load high revs but that much shouldn't hurt a good engine. That kind of suggests a head gasket problem?? Does it still smoke out tailpipe?

Smokes when first started. Is it possible emission machine is off and actually reving at higher RPM?
