stall on idle... 93 grand prix Sign In

I have a '93 Grand Prix 3.1L which has had some electrical problems lately (several electrical fallouts leading to engine death). I have replaced the starter assembly and ignition module, which have solved all of my electrical fallouts. Now I have a problem with engine stall-outs when idling. The car will start no problem, and even idle fine after started. Only after I begin driving does it stall out. Keep pressure on the gas, and it runs just fine. Ideas anyone?

Hope this is it! I had a 90 Cutlass 3.1 that anytime the battery was disconnected or interupted went nuts and stalled for quite a while?? I later learned that the computer controls needed time to "learn" their driver.

It was a customer who freaked out with this so I drove the car for over an hour having been told it was a matter of both miles and # of starts. It really did QUIT this on it's own!! I can't say if that was for sure or not to this day but how do you argue with what works?

So if you don't have any codes just give it some time before you go nuts and see if it's the same for your car.

Never hurts to look around and see the the air cleaner and wiring is on properly and any vacuum hoses hooked up. If this doesn't work hit back and we'll see what we can do. T

Thanks, I'll be patient with it, see if it gets any better. It does seem to be slowly improving, so that may possibly be it. I have also found a weak and cracked vacuum hose which I'll replace just on principle. Easy and cheap enough fix while I'm cruising around waiting for this thing to finish with its "schooling"

It could be a list of things. It sound like its timing is out a bit. You might adjust the idle up a little and see if that stops it from stalling. I had a ford contour that did something like that and what i did. It worked until i traded it off which was about 6 months later. Thats not a fix, but it might make your car reliable until you can fix the problem.
