vw golf mk3 1.9D crankshaft Sign In

Hi, I have a mk3 golf 1.9D engine that does not get syncronized.
The problem started when i replaced the timing belt, and after a couple of days, while driving, the engine stopped after making a deep impact noise. After inspection, I found a synchronization problem, which doesn't get corrected. Every time I do the timing, I find the belt shifted. Then I realized that I could turn the flywheel for about 2 deg.
with the crankshaft pinion blocked.
My conclusion is: if the crankshat is an assembled part, then maybe a machinist can do something, otherwise, mine is broken and need to be changed.

Any help would be appreciable.
Thank you.

Not sure what you are trying to describe here but the crankshaft is a solid piece of steel with a flywheel bolted to one end and a balancer bolted to the other end and they should all move as one piece.

ok then, if you could move the flywheel which is bolted to the crankshaft without having the crankshaft pinion moving, then the crankshaft must bu broken !

Or the flywheel bolts are loose and egged out or the front keyway is broken.

If the flywheel breaks, it will never run again from that point.

what's confusing, is that I removed it last week, and found nothing weird, no sign of any crack or break. But I think I'll just buy a new one rather than take the risk of breaking the engine a second time.

Re: vw golf mk3 1.9D crankshaft Sign In

BTT: Sorry if I missed something but OP said crank could be turned 2 degrees and not show at the opposite end of it? "pinion" of a crankshaft? I'm missing something.

Crank is as HT said, balancer at one end, flywheel at the other are fixed as it's make out of one casting of metal once to match the specific ONE block it will be used in.
Can another new be bought? TMK yes but it can't be the same each are to the original block so it's messing with "Mother Nature" if you go there.

Can one split at an angle and still move and work? I've heard of that a ripping once only to a camshaft not to a crank and that engine still ran??

Key at damper or rounded out holes said it in one line if I read this properly says it. Keys mess up, smash, squish in wrong or can shear is possible lawnmower or most involved engine made,
