2000 GMC Sierra - Exhaust falling off!
Hello all - first time poster. Probably a dumb question. I'm at work and went out to go to lunch, only to find the following issue: I've always relied on my dad for car advice, but this is kind of an urgent question and don't really have access to that information. Would this be an issue where it is essential to get it fixed ASAP? Driveable to get home from work at least? It wasn't like this when I got to work this morning, so I'm guessing in the few hours it has been sitting in the parking lot with salt eating away, it must have been the last straw and finally ate through. Thanks in advance!

The exhaust system rusted through and broke in half. You are likely going to have to replace most of the system, probably from the converter back. An exhaust shop would be the best place to have that done. They are much cheaper than regular repair shops and actually do a better job. If you plan to drive it at all before repairing it, you at least need to crawl under there and tie that pipe up so it isn't hanging so low. If you snag it on a pothole, it will do a lot of damage and would be dangerous. The other issue with driving it that way is fumes could get up into the cab and that can kill you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

FYI - Got the exhaust replaced from about the cab on back with a flowmaster. Guess it is a good thing, because apparently my rear brake pads were also entirely gone somehow, so that got fixed too. Ha.
