Difference in front/rear catalytic converters Sign In

2016
Chevy
Impala Ltz
3.6 v6

Catalytic converter broke away from bracket. I ordered new replacement however, new one is the rear one (firewall side) is there an issue with putting it on the front side or just return and replace?

There is definitely a difference between a pre-cat and the actual cat. Not interchangeable.

These are completely separate, opposite banks of cylinders. Both have same o2 sensors, same mounting hardware etc. The rear bank one is round while the front bank is flattened. They’re not connected to each other just the exhaust “y”.

They still have different designs for a reason. Why would you possibly want to instal a known wrong part?
