1997
Mercury
Sable station
3.0
185000

I installed a new low price muffler purchased at Canadian Tire. The muffler has markings A and B. The markings might indicate intake and exit of the exhaust gas. I consulted two seasoned mechanics prior installing, but could not get a proper answer which side is for what. They think the muffler can be installed both ways.
I installed it with the B side pointing to the car end. The same way as the old one taken off, where its marking was still readable. However this muffler was a used one which I took off from my old 1995 Taurus Station before scrapping and was installed about three years ago to my Sable by a mechanic.
Is the installation correct.

As correct as a used muffler can be, I guess.
