exhaust leak

Can I plug slight exhaust leaks in my slip joint header joints with high temp silicone or is there something better.

not much information -
anyway the suggested repair would be a new "joint" - but without knowing what vehicle eng etc its tough.

This is on a set of headers for a GT40.At the rear of the car there are 4 pipes going into 1 muffler. These are slip joints and are prone to leak until they carbon in.

That would be the collector and no, they are not supposed to leak. Those tubes are welded to the collector flange.

No, where the pipes fit into the 4 into 1 collector it is a slip in fit. There is always some leakage until they carbon in.

They may be assembled through a slip joint but they are not supposed to continue to leak. I expect they are supposed to be welded once assembled into correct position..

If it is your exhaust manifold that is leaking, I would recommend getting K.A.P. repair kits. It's just a bracket that fits over the broken bolts where the leaks are. I find them to work really well.
