My 02 acura mdx has a loose feeling while steering and when i hot a bump it feels like the right side shakes slightly. I jaked the car up thinking it was a bad ball bearing but the wheel only shook left to right not up and down. I assume it has to do with the ball joint or cv axle but i have never messed with this kind of issue. How would i go about identifying which part needs to be replaced? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

? Loose feeling when you hit a bump - right? Check for struts first just jounce the car sitting still see if the shocks inside are junk.
FE checking: Hoist both front wheels by the notch in body. You can pry up under wheel and tire is a ball joint. Grab tire top and bottom see how that direction feels and as I think you did side to side as if steering is. You'll have to have a helper look and know what's loose while you do that stuff.
Other is rack and pinions: Put key such that you can steer vehicle pointing straight ahead - a must. Engine off feel for how much free-play at top of wheel. Now while weight is on ground turn left and right, look at steering shaft on its way to the rack how much of you can see for anything obvious.
Rack also mounts to body check that with weight on wheels best on a type lift that does car whole on ramps.
BTW - some of this is tricky alone. Check around for a good shop that checks front ends for free or small charge towards any repair still I think you'll need help and if anything found an alignment which will find anything missed that stops that from being done,

That's going to be a worn out tie rod end on that side, probably the inner. You will have to hold the tie rod while moving the wheel to determine which it is.
