My 2003 F-150 (5.4L v8, 4WD) makes a loud clicking noise. Almost sounds like a kids bicycle with a baseball card in the spokes, but MUCH louder. It seems to come from the engine compartment (passenger side) and only happens when the truck is in drive and accelerating. It does not happen when I hit the gas in neutral or park or while at idle. Truck is also burning more oil lately but not sure it that's related. My mechanic thought it might be the exhaust manifold but I'm not convinced enough to drop the money just yet. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

Noises are hard to diagnose unless you can hear them and your there to try and locate the source. One thing that might help you is if you recorded the noise and uploaded it to a video hosting site and pasted the link in here. Maybe hearing the noise may give us clues. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
