Hey gentlemen and women, It appears I am having a issue with my 1990 Geo Prizm, 95% sure its something to do with the engine getting fuel, but I could be wrong. Basically what is going on is the engine sounds and feels like a lawnmower most of the time. When I give it gas, it kind of gurgles and pops at me. (The same sort of sound and feeling when your tank is empty and you are running on fumes essentially) The car will idle (not at consistent rpms though) it grumbles, then out of nowhere it will sound just fine for a few seconds. While driving it, when I am putting the pedal down until about half way, it sounds the same (and feels like my horsepower is cut in half). Then once I put my foot to the floor the engine gets enough gas to go like normal. I originally thought my engine was shot, but as previously stated, when it gets enough fuel it runs like normal. Also thought it might be exhaust, but everything is nice and tidy down there. Am I looking at a fuel filter? Or a fuel pump? Any other possibility's that could be at play? The air filter is nice and clean, oil/filter changed 2000 miles ago with synthetic. Thanks!

Check engine light on? You could connect a fuel pressure gauge and monitor fuel pressure while the problem is occurring. You could also test fuel flow volume/time. With that data you should be able to determine if you have a fuel delivery problem or not. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
