I own a 1990 Chevy 2500 pickup truck 2 wheel drive with a 5.7 gas engine, the truck over heat when you are driving up a medium grade hill, the water pump , thermostat has been replaced, what can cause it to run hot under these conditions?

Sound like either you are low on coolant or your radiator may be blocked. Run it till it is at opperating temp. Then shut it off. If the radiator is hot at the top and cold at the bottom then thats a good indication. Look around the and under the upper radiator hose on the radiator for signs of leaks. These style radiators are terrible about cracking there.

Among other things a weak fan clutch could be the problem. They should be replaced about every 5 years on vehicles in hotter climates and under loads,

Guest: That's an interesting point IF the problem BEGAN with a pump replacement as there are reverse directional pumps and some counter rotating engines - especially HD or special purpose as in marine use for the right hand of twin engined vessels which commonly use GM truck V8 blocks and others.
