???? It uses engine coolant in drive only but not overdrive (which doesn't kick in till up to speed) and you have a new radiator? Was this your complaint when the radiator was replaced? Check fluid levels at both radiator at cap and trans fluid level looking for coolant in the fluid which can make it look like pink frappe. Need to know a bit more to suggest anything else, T

You don't have different gears for overdrive. That merely enable the torque converter to lock at like over at least 35 mph. If your coolants are full and not cross contaminated then what's the problem? The only place coolant and trans fluid are close is in the radiator itself where the lines go in top and out bottom back to trans. If that had a problem it wouldn't care what gear you were in, T

If there's just water in the cooling system someone must have filled it with just water. That's ok for testing but can't stay that way. Coolant must be full at radiator, cap must be good, and the recovery tank should never drop below it's "min" mark. You said it burned out the tank -- did you mean the radiator or the recovery tank? A bad head gasket could blow coolant out and overspill at recovery tank or could be burning it in engine and might be unnoticed if slow, T

yes both the recovery tank and the radiator go empty when i drive. Plus when i use the ac same thing. I know i should put in radiator fluid but its getting expensie to put in every time i go to worn and when i get home. How can i tell if the head gasket is busted or not?

I would pressure test the system with engine off and be careful as a cylinder may fill up with water and would really hurt the engine to try to start it without taking out the spark plugs first and cranking it. If you have been driving this thing dry twice a day you can almost be sure the head gasket has a problem and if it wasn't the cause it wouldn't like driving around out of coolant. Water is fine for a while and using that alone doesn't hurt anything short term. You really need to find that leak and fix it before you need a new engine! T
