1992 saturn car won't start Sign In

Recently my car has been dying overnight and I have been having to jump start it to get to work. Until now everytime I jump start it, it works fine. But tonight I went to leave work and had to have a coworker try to jump my car and it wouldn't start. We left the cables attached to try to charge it but even after 30 minutes the car would not start. Battery light was on even when cables were attached. Is there anything that would cause this? Because even if the battery was dead wouldn't jumping make the car start? When I turned the key the only noise heard was humming coming from the engine area

First thing that you need to do is have that battery tested to be sure it is good. Also make sure your battery connections are clean and tight. If your battery is bad and you keep jumping it, the alternator is eventually going to say, "You know what, I am out of here!"

Dustin - DS is spot on, I'm more verbose as it goes. YOU CAN'T JUST KEEP JUMPING A LOW BATTERY for whatever reason it goes low before it will croak for good. The jumping thing is really left to a one time thing and now really should be from a jumper box not another vehicle or you now shorted dead battery (it almost certainly will test out that way) not only baked YOUR alternator but harmed a donor car especially when left connected so watch that vehicle now too! It's contagious - no joke.


If a dead vehicle can't crank instantly with no battery at all connected the jumping source or cables lack and almost all do. Also never allow a vehicle to run without a battery connected. If it was dead and safe to do so feel the temp of the alternator as a clue to how hard it's working you might be real surprised at how hot they can get. Don't allow that,
