1993 chevy lumina - no start Sign In

Okay, My Mother In Law has this car - 1993 Chevy Lumina with a 3.1 6 cylinder. It cranks over, but won't start. When the key is engaged, I can't hear the fuel pump engage. So I dropped the tank and put in a fuel pump, but still same thing as before. Just in case,I take the fuel pump back and get another. This time I just plug it in before putting the tank back up and still no sound or even vibration. Before all of this I switched around some relays to check the Fuel pump relay in the outer fuse box and checked all other fuses marked as "Fuel". I am getting a test light tomorrow and checking he electrical to the fuel pump. Is there anyway it could be the Ignition Switch or Shut Off switch and where would that be located ?? My oldest son just recently replaced the starter a week ago if that helps at all.

Test for power arriving at the tank on the gray wire during the first 2 seconds of "key on".

Take one step at a time. I don't cover every possible "what if" scenario.

Re: 1993 chevy lumina - no start Sign In

The gray wire had no power. I changed the Ignition Switch and sill no power. I checked the relay box under the hood and found the relay had no power going to it. I took the relay box out and flipped over and spliced into the power going to he AC Relay. The AC doesn't work anyway and it only had power when he key is turned on. With the key turned on, the Fuel Pump was then make a humming noise and had power to the gray wire.
But it still wouldn't start unless we were spraying Starting Fluid into the carb and only ran for a couple of seconds. My next step is going to check the Fuel Filter. I did put in a new gas tank, because the old one was rusted pretty bad and leaked if you put in too much fuel.
Anything else that I should be checking ??

Nobody advised you to do any of that stuff. You're just hacking it and creating more problems and dangerous situations.

So this is how it happens...I always wanted to see a hack job being done. We usually get them in the shop after the hack job has been done and the customer doesn't know how that happened.

Nothing like a hot wired fuel pump running after a car accident feeding the flames and incinerating everyone inside the vehicle. I guess if the mother-in-law is the only one driving it, that is ok.

The wire as added before the Fuel Pump Relay Switch. The system should still be safe.

How do you know? You don't even know how the circuit is wired.

It isn't supposed to be permanent, just trying to get the fuel pump powered up. Anyway, there is now fuel getting to the fuel rail (tested), but i guess the fuel injectors are not powered. The spark plugs are still dry after trying to start. There must be something that controls both Fuel Pump and Fuel Injectors.

All you're doing is hacking up the operating system and creating more problems than you already have. You have no idea what the repercussions could be of jumping power to a circuit that you don't understand.
We don't do things this way and we won't be involved in a hacked up mess.
