1994 Buick Lesabre Limited Code Reader Sign In

I have a 94 Buick Lesabre Limited and want to read my codes. The connector is an OBDII 16 point unit. There are 5 wires connected to it. I bought a reader but it doesn't work. Can anyone suggested a cheap reader or how I can do it with another wire or multimeter. I have read several repair manuals but haven't had the confidence in the information I received. Could you suggest a reader or can you advise me on how I can read the codes? Thanks.

Re: 1994 Buick Lesabre Limited Code Reader Sign In

Full OBD II systems can only be coded with a compatible code reader or scan tool; OBD II systems have done away with flash codes.
If your reader will not communicate with the PCM, it’s either a defective/incompatible reader or the PCM has lost its capabilities to communicate.
Try the reader on a different vehicle; it won’t help you get the codes out of yours but it’ll tell you whether the reader is defective or not?
Also 94 was the beginning of the OBD II systems; even though it has the 16 pin connector it’s possible that the system still isn’t a complete OBD II ready system; as in some of the programming of the PCM. There may not be anything wrong with your reader; it could be the system on your car that’s speaking in a language it cannot understand. Which means you may need a scanner with the appropriate software to communicate with this particular system?
Before the powers to be delegated to all the manufacturers to standardize communications it was a free for all as to how to gain access to data.

You may need to go to a GM dealer to have the codes read. That is the transition period for some GM cars from CCC to OBDII. Yhere is an adapter that needs to be installed to read the codes.
