my 94 camaro overheats unless I put the heater on. Also lately when I put the heater on, the air will suddenly turn cold and stay that way, or fluctuate between hot and cold randomly. Do you guys know what may cause this? Or what parts i need for it? also the check engine light comes on when i let off the gas after going 55 mph. I don't know if it may be related.

The reason your heater is going hot and cold is because of air pockets in the cooling system. You need to start by pressure testing the cooling system to help locate any leaks in the system. If you have had a severe overheating in the past, you may have a blown head gasket at this point allowing exhaust gases to mix with coolant in the cooling system, superheating the coolant. There are chemical tests that can be performed to test for these things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
