I have a 1995 Dodge Intrepid with about 140,000 miles on it. Today while driving home on the freeway, going about 60 mph, it suddenly made a jerking motion, then started slowing down. It is an automatic, but it felt kind of like it shifted into a lower gear or something. When I tried to accelerate the car wouldn't go over 50 and it sounded like it was working really really hard to go even that fast. The engine would rev but the car wouldn't go any faster. I pulled off the freeway and made it home on the side roads, so it seemed to be running fine when I was going 30mph, but I'm afraid to drive it on the freeway again until I get it checked out. The past couple of days the car has taken a little longer to start then usual, but other than that the car has been running pretty okay lately. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

I'd purchased one in 97, had it for two weeks before running into others that had one, four people I'ved talked with said they had trans trouble with this model /year vehicle and one guy said the dealership rebuilt his trans three times and on the last time refuse to warranty it, I heard from others that it was a design flaw in the electronic part of the trans. On the day before I traded mine in, the trans was jerking on it..... Had the check engine light came on any of the times the trans done this? Its kind of hard to give an answer to this but having a trans shop to run a diagnostic scan would be a good place to start.
