1995 Toyota Celica Help

Hello, I am in need of any help that anyone can offer me. I am currently driving a 1995 Toyota Celica GT 2.2L. All of the sudden the other day it wouldn’t start. The starting was engaging the motor, the motor just wouldn’t fire. After 2 hours of trying to get it to work it finally started running. The only problem was when it started the rpms dropped to 200 and the car was shaking really bad which continued when it jumped to 600 then back down to 200 then up to 2000 and then finally settled and stopped shaking at 1000. I got it back to the house and it started right back up after it had been on. However, I let it cool down and it had a hard time starting again. Finally this morning I took it for a longer than 5 mile drive and near the end I ran into some problems. I pulled up to a light and the car shut off. Once I got it back on it continuously tried to shut off and was jerking. I had to keep the car above 1000 rpms to keep it on. It felt like there was no power in the lower rpm range and 1000 or below was very jerky. Any help would be much appreciated. I really do not want to pay someone $500 to look at my car. I want to go in knowing, if possible, what is wrong. Thanks, Seth

is your check engine light on?? if not make sure the bulb isnt burned out by checking when you first start the car, the check engine light should illuminate for approximately 3 seconds while it goes through its self test then turn off. if it doesnt do that you either hopefully just have a burned out bulb or a faulty connection at your PCM. other then that it sounds along the lines of a bad MAF sensor, IAC or TPS. but its hard to tell without any CEL codes. could also be a fuel pressure problem __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Just to add... Possibly flooded the engine from trying to start it and the spark plugs were fouled out...thus causing the running rough /jerking condition you describe. This will need to be diagnosed to see why it took so long to start...agree with dmac here...will need to see if there are any codes stored..several possible things it could be. Does/did the engine turn over good like the battery was strong..if not have the battery tested. Was it damp out at the time? Has the vehicle been tuned up ? Just some additional thoughts. Jim

check engine light turns on and then goes off after a few seconds. Could you explain what a MAF, IAC, or TPS sensor is/does? Thanks for the help

MAF- Mass Airflow Sensor- senses how much air is coming in from the air filter assembly. located on the intake tubing IAC- Idle Air Control Valve. - controls the idle by bypassing the throttle at idle since the throttle plate is closed. located on intake around throttle body TPS- throttle position sensor- senses how far your opening the throttle with your right foot. located on side of throttle body __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

I changed the spark plugs and it got better but still having the same problem. I have it to a mechanic right now, one that a trust for the most part. The battery is good it was turning over strong. Not damp out and the vehicle was tuned up about 20000 or 30000 miles ago. Thanks for the help!
