1995 camry shaking on left turn
|
|
|
My 95, 3.0 litre Canry with 173,000 miles on it, started to slip, felt like I hit a patch of ice, but only when I accelerated, or came off the throttle. Then when slowing to turn left, it shook the wheel and pulled to the left. I had left the tire shop where they replaced 2 tires, as they said that was my problem. I was almost home so did not attempt the 20 mile return and have not driven it since. It got considerably worse as I drove. Thanks for any help here.

I'm no expert but to me it sounds like the left wheel is loose. If I were you I'd check the lug nuts then take the vehicle back to the tire shop and tell them what its doing after they installed the tires. Just a common sense thought...

ABSOLUTELY! Check all lug nuts right away!!!! Look at wheel itself also if you do find them totally loose wheel could be damaged and not safe to return with that wheel - hope not either way. If so and spare needed do check pressure in it as most never check and they are too low at some age, T

Thank You Suzy, but it was acting weird before I went to tire shop. That's why I went, but they just wanted to sell me tires I guess. I will check tho, soon as the snow allows.

Thank You Tom, I will check, but we had this snowstorm, kind of a blizzard. It was acting strange before I went to the tire shop. I am 20-25 miles away from any shop, so I may have to get it towed when I can. And I may not get it fixed until funds permit.

I don't think you have a loose wheel. What is far more likely is a tire with a broken belt on the shoulder which will give you a severe wobble when the car leans on that side, even at low speeds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

OK...when you get a chance you might check the lug nuts on all the wheels before you call a tow truck. Sounds like a front end problem but don't know if your tire shop has an alignment machine. You might call them and inquire. Good luck.!

He certainly won't need an alignment machine to resolve a loose wheel or a separated tire or any vibration problem for that matter.

You are correct as always. I was just wondering if an alignment might have been the fix verses buying new tires. Since we can't drive or see it I do wish him good luck with it.

I have seen an untrue wheel wear a tire in so you don't notice till a new one is put on and should have been caught when balanced or the evidence on old tires - these fronts are new now. You mentioned Blizzard and all depending snow/ice can build up inside or outside of a rim throwing it way off balance but not on the ride home from the tire place that happens while it's parked sometimes in windy snows mostly. Too easy to check lug nuts not to. Understand the weather but if a wheel falls off over a mistake like that it's no good of course. If you have towing coverage and totally not sure use it as it's old enough for about anything, T
