1996 Mercury Mystique-won't start

Car will not start. Almost turns over but it sound like something isn't catching. Not sure if battery or alternator. Need help!!

first off check your battery. have another car give you a jump first. if it starts i'd have the alternator checked. if it don't we might have more seriouse problems. check the battery first and get back to me. that and i'd need alittle more info.

Thank you so much for your response, my brother has a battery charger on mine as we speak. I will keep you posted as to if that works or not. I really appreciate your response.

Just had battery troubles mysef todayMad It was old and I knew it and wouldn't take a charge. 1948 John Deere farm tractor that I haven't used in two years. A battery is really only dependable for a few years and I know that.

A 1996 should be on about it's third battery. Just the thougt that a real bad battery won't take a charge and sometimes not even a jump.

Darrin mentioned more info needed and is so true.

An alternator by itself would not prevent you from starting a car with a jump if needed, T
