You have a 50/50 chance of being right with the distributor. It has to be up on the compression stroke to install it at #1.

How old is the fuel?

Whoh down sport. I take it this is cranks but doesn't start - right? Attacking with parts tossing isn't even a good place to begin rather what is missing that it doesn't fire at all apparently.
You've played with fuel things and ignition things basically groping for luck which would be lots better if you had some clue of why it won't fire even badly. All six plugs and wires didn't all fail at once for example - wasted time and $$ probably unless ready for all these things anyway - not so fast though.
Never mind the distributor or how you really need to know why it doesn't run first.
It's up top in the section locked to follow why an engine cranks and doesn't start and what to check you need to follow first.
I don't want to dig all over for specifics but one reason is lack of fuel because of fuel pump isn't working. Lots of Ford products use both an inertia switch to kill it on purpose to reset if tripped and that's it! If you don't hear it prime up at all that or the relay which should be the same as one for A/C you can play swaptronics with just to see if that's it or not too. No money yet until you know what is missing all listed out nicely in this thread.............

A problem with wild parts tossing is then you question the new parts are exactly right or defective at some point so works against you,

He's already had the distributor out so lets get it installed correctly and then do diagnostics.

I wanted to know how old the fuel is before doing that also.

OK - I just read into that it wasn't pointing properly to take out but must already be out as you said then let's find out what the story is.........

I just re-read it and it sounds like he hasn't done it yet. Yes, if you haven't touched the distributor yet, leave it alone. Make sure you have good gas and go completely through that diagnostic sequence and post all the results.

i drained all the gas i just wonder why that rotor isnt on the 1 cylinder .i went around twice on that crank shaft and i will put my finger in the cylinder to figure out if im on the up stroke or not but i just want to make sure everything was in right position before i chage distributer.

No, don't touch the distributor until you find out what is wrong with this thing.

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

i agree the only reason i replaced the pressure regulater is the intake was tore off so while there i changed it and i want to make sure i have good fire when i start to
trouble shoot it.

yes thatis what im doing putting distributer i and changing pressue reg and draining gas tank are not creating new problems if these model historily have issues with these area ,i havent adjusted the timing on it i went by specs with turning crank shaft to check once it is at tdc. if everything was inlign with specs. and done with belt on i changed nothing, spark plugs and wires is normal to keep car running to my liking so when i seen that the rotor didnt line up with spec. i came here for advice.

OK, it's quite obvious that you have no intention of taking any of the advice you are asking for so I'm going to bring this to a close right now.
