1997 Chevy S10 Oil Problem

I've had my truck for over two years now. When I originally got it there was an oil problem not too sure what is was. It was fixed immediately. So, there is no smoke coming out when I crank it up, but there is also no oil leak? Every so often even right after the oil is changed, there is NO oil at all. I park in a garage, no oil leak what-so-ever. There is about 150,000 miles on it but it is in very good condition because I've kept up maintenance on it. I live in San Diego so it is relatively hard for me to get up some hills around here. At first I thought it was just the 4-cylinder but eventually it got worse and I had it looked at and fixed. Now two years later it is starting the same problem? Any suggestions or diagnosis would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You called this an oil problem? Is the oil staying full and pressure in proper ranges? Does this 4 banger use a timing belt? T

yes it has a timing belt. the gauges are fine, nothing seems to be different on the oil gauge. it just doesn't seem to be burning oil or leaking so it has to be going somewhere right?

I have to guess as you didn't say it consuming oil that it is getting low and you don't know where it is going. It would burn some with some miles on engine and still be normal. Say like a qt every 1,000 miles wouldn't make much for smoke. It could leak into the cooling system which would be out of sight but the coolant would look like a cream and hoses would be getting soft. It could have a leak that only drips at some speed and doesn't make a mess to find or many spots where you park it. A little will drip from engines and just one drop makes a stain and if that is every day the stain would be noticed on ground where it gets parked after a while. Even one drop a day would take a long time to consume a quart. How often in time and miles are you needing to add oil? Are other fluids fine? I mentioned the timing belt because after about 60,000 miles they are not reliable and it may have jumped a tooth and performance would be diminished or the engine could quit altogether. Some engines if the timing belt breaks will self destruct so they are important. If you are consuming oil at a fast rate and don't keep it in safe ranges engine damage WILL result. Are you having to add more than a quart? Gotta know this to even guess, T
