I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with a 4 cyl engine with 90k miles on it, for the last 9 days it has been sputtering, the engine pulls and smells like gas when in idle, when i start it, it has blueish black exhaust for the first couple minutes. The check engine light is on as well. I suspected that it might just be bad gas and have been treating it with Heet and premium gasoline. Im running out of ideas and cant afford alot of repairs atm. someone please help. i am decently mechanically inclined if its easy to fix, like fuel filters and such. please someone give me an idea to go on. thank you in advance Heather P

1st place to start would be to get the codes pulled to see what systems are giving you trouble. If you haven't done any recent maintenance now would be a good time to change the oil, filters & plugs.... On this particular model they had a big probem with crossfiring inside the coil house. If you are going to do the maintenance stuff definitely change out that housing & coil boots.............
