Hi, I have a 1998 Ford Mondeo 1.8 16 valve.( Zetec) My question is if the timing belt breaks can it bend valves? I am having a problem to get the timing right, would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

The Mondeo is not a model we have here but if it uses the same 2.0 DOHC (VIN3) that we use in the focus and ZX3 Escort, then it is not an interference engine but you do need special tools to get the belt set correctly. It doesn't use timing marks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
