1998 Mercury Mystique Alternator Removal

This is the most difficult alternator that I have ever seen. To me it looks like the right side axle has to be removed first. If anyone knows for sure the sequence on removing this bugger I would sure appreciate the help. The engine is a 2.5 V-6

See Figure 5 0900823d801bc31d","gif_medium","no")" Fig. 5: Alternator mounting-2.5L engine -
Disconnect the negative battery cable. -
Release the drive belt tensioner and remove the drive belt from around the alternator. -
Raise and support the vehicle. -
Remove the passenger side front wheel and fender well splash guard. -
Disconnect the passenger side outer tie rod end from the spindle. -
Remove the exhaust system Y-pipe. -
Unplug the connectors and remove the cables from the alternator. -
Remove the alternator brace retaining bolts and the brace from the vehicle. -
Remove the passenger side halfshaft.. -
Remove the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator from the passenger side fenderwell. To install: -
Install the alternator on the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 29-40 ft. lbs. (40-55 Nm). -
Install the passenger side halfshaft.Install the alternator brace and tighten the retaining bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm). -
Install the alternator connectors and the cables. Tighten the terminal nut to 80-97 inch lbs. (9-11 Nm). -
Install the exhaust system Y-pipe. -
Install the passenger side outer tie rod end to the spindle.. -
Install the passenger side fender well splash guard and front wheel. -
Lower the vehicle. -
Release the drive belt tensioner and install the drive belt pulley over the alternator pulley. -
Connect the negative battery cable.
