Hi! I have a 98 lancer (coupe) and has a really simple mechanism in the boot. I unlocked it, removed the key (while the boot was still open) and then when I went to close it it would not close. I have done this before with no trouble, but this time it wouldn’t close. It feels and sounds like something just isn’t clicking into place and the boot flies open over bumps or around turns (I have only driven the car home since this happened). Both me and my dad have had a look but we cannot figure it out. Any help or info would be much appreciated :)

I have no clue what type of exact latch this would be but try this if you can: Look at the end top or bottom on this where there is a latch the other a hoop or bar for it to grab. The latch I'll call like jaws may be stuck in the locked position while open you would need to use key, turn it to "unlock" and open those jaws again with even a screwdriver. Then if that works - go around and spray all latches and hinges in this thing it's 20 years old the lube is good for a year if that probably nothing works well if not tended to as simple as locks and latches, T
