I was planning on scrapping the car in spring 2015 but need to move the car and don't have a clue on fixing this issue. The key cylinder is located in the dash and I don't have any passlock II codes errors when trying to start the car, My power steering pump doesn't squeal or is locked (not Burning belts) When I parked the car in august everything was fine Hope I can get some help thank you.

Is the steering wheel locked or just lacking assist? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I think Mr. Hammer Time is asking if the wheel feels like it's lacking assist or really locked like ones that do directly from key to steering column? Never had the joy of this if locked as if key wasn't in it type locked but it's slow here tonite will suggest some things. Car sat so you said from August which alone isn't way too long but there have been some pretty wild temp swings which may have bothered some INTERIOR things from condensation too and now cold. Thought is if this is just not unlocking wheel perhaps it's either frozen (ice) or sticky so if so I'd let it warm up real good with heat on full blast for a while and jockey wheel back and forth it might just free up. Seriously haven't even seen this problem if so but it must have an electric solenoid type something to lock the wheel without the key AND when in park only. If not that the wheel should still turn just very hard to turn or stuck if stuck in snow/ice would likely squeal the belt or demonstrate power assist is trying? Any which way do try to warm this completely up. Hey - if in snow make sure exhaust is clear to escape out back of it or clear it well out first! T

I will try and make a video tomorrow it's pitch black out,yes the wheel won't move there is slack but I'm not going to yank on the wheel in-case something breaks. I was thinking a seized rack & pinion but have never heard of that,I should still have manual steering I'm guessing.

I fixed the link for you. There should be a cable that runs from the back of the ignition lock cylinder that locks and unlocks the steering wheel.

Thanks for fixing the link. Would you have a diagram so I fully understand what needs to be fixed (can I just splice both ends together again) or bypass everything? Also the power steering pump was empty,so I will fill with that thick lucas oil.

Where do you get these ridiculous ideas? No, you can't splice the cable. No, you can't bypass the cable. And no, you can fill your power steering with thick Lucas oil. You find the problem and repair it correctly.

I think a typo by Mr. Hammer Time. Yes you CAN fill your PS up with some Lucas something but think he meant you CAN'T as in solve anything by doing so and probably make the whole mess worse to hopelessly messed up adding hydraulic problem to a mechanical/electric problem at the steering wheel. Finding PS fluid low it's own problem to find leak and fix, T

NO, that was not a typo. No, you cannot fill your power "thick Lucas oil" Lucas may make some additives that are added in small amounts as a treatment but the system is still substantially filled with power steering fluid and I don't even recommend doing that. There is no such thing as "Mechanic in a Can".

I'm misunderstanding just this bit. Not the point just made yet again that there is ''NO MECHANIC IN A CAN" is the point. For certain very specific reasons some products do help for certain things but we aren't there. In a low fluid in PS case I'd fill it to proper level first with proper fluid then find out why it was low and where. There could be damage from being low as well. Starting off with tricks IMO at this point would only confuse a proper approach, T

You find the problem and repair it correctly. Like I was saying in my first post the car is getting scrapped,it will never be driven again. I just need to move the car because winter is coming. I don't want to put another $50 into this car for the junkyard. Being your a ASE mechanic can you supply a diagram of what your speaking about,so I can better understand about this cable. I also said splicing everything because I thought it was just a broken wire, also thought about energizing the wire with a switch. I didn't realize it was a cable.

No, I can't find any good diagrams. This one is of the ignition switch and it shows that end of the cable (circled). You can follow it from there and see what it is or isn't doing.

? Change up............ If your only intention is to scrap it have you asked if they'll come get it for nothing + pay for the core value of parts plus the metal they get out of it? Here, MA/USA ads are everywhere for both pay for any condition vehicle and come get it! Not small bean either right about now, T

OK - I can do better and a free tow to dump a car even strip off what I want to keep and give them a shell and do better than you mentioned and have twice in a couple years. Doesn't matter you have to deal with YOUR area's demand. Of course you'll get more if it can drive now for someone to sell off as a running car Somewhere I said I simply haven't done battle with this steering lock. I suspect it's an electric solenoid in the column pushing/pulling a lock to a start wheel same as a key there would do mechanically locking wheel and problem is probably right there - a guess for now but could be the trigger wire to it as shown in the diagram back some posts. Highly doubt it's a cable or rods of any kind from key to locking mechanism. That part of the problem you should be able to deal with depending on working space and some tools available to you. The PS fluid deal IMO is separate and unknown so far. If pump is or has been buzzing away with very low fluid just from this recent running to get this thing to move it may be an expensive fix now. Pump blows, throw junk and rack and pinion clogged up then you are spending big bucks to dump a car which doesn't usually pay off. I'd come get this dang thing from you as a Winter beater but just a tad too far and whatever snags to bring into US. Mod view can show where your general area of your signal came from like between Niagara Falls and towards London, OT. Still too far to come get this as I'm closer to Boston, MA (25ish miles) west of it. Not the point. What to do now is with what you have at hand and can do. Fill PS anyway. Forget the Lucas for now just keep it filled and deal with that when it moves power assisted or not. IDK - you have to decided on the value change of it fixed up a little or just the way it is IF YOUR INTENT IS JUST TO GET RID OF THE THING! The age doesn't scare me personally but rust would and now you mentioned a couple rounds of fixing brakes. If rusted lines it's the beginning of a near endless problem of doing them all really more time than parts most of the time. Lousy time of year for this. Fix or cut losses for a car you don't seem to want to keep or fix up and absolutely could cost all over for assorted crap so it's decision time based on exactly what you can do and get right where you are and how much of this you can do yourself with what tools + new or used parts just to make it drive OK. Throw in some other surprises possible too not know yet. Decision time for you. I tend to think I'd try to sell it as it is and let buyer deal with issues or just use the car as parts for another. This car could be better overall too and worth fixing to use if getting it road worthy doesn't exceed base value as it stand without doing anything. I think at a minimum you need to move it to (you didn't say) to a location where it can be seen, started and worked on or towed away by a private party and don't know the logistics of that for you either. Here to help you just need to know how far you want to go before cutting losses or chances of doing better with some fixes, T

OK - Please no links to some site for ads. If you wish to sell this car thru this site there's a "Bargin Bin" area. Just fully describe what you have and are selling for how much with details you would for anything in the ad. You can copy the content of an ad you have now but not the site for it. Ask for an interested person to contact you by private message. This is a world site. I'd state plenty of information on where the car is located and the country. People will figure out if they want to pursue it or not like any. Just FYI - if you are selling it just the way it is keep your ads local up to a sign in a window on it with contact info and price. This really isn't a great place IMO to sell a whole car unless it's a total one of a kind that someone would travel the world for. Do state an end date if you do that here and ask that the entire thread be removed or locked up or it could stick there forever. If you sell it please get rid of the ad. Site isn't set up well for this as said........ T

Site doesn't make it clear. You click on a person's user name then see a choice of sending a private message to just that person or see that they do not accept them. On an open post just state the dang ad not a link. Heaven forbid you type it out again, T
