Hi, I've got a 199 Grand Caravan with a power steering problem. Last month I was having leaks, so I had to replace the pressure hose, which lead me then to the power steering pump that was leaking. All was good for about a month, then the pump started whining again with a partial loss of steering assist. I tried flushing out as much fluid as I could, then refilled it and bled the air by turing it slowing from side to side while it was on jacks. No change. I did run the fluid a little low with the new pump, but it worked fine once it was refilled. Can it be a bad pump (got a rebuilt one from the store)? I did get another one under warranty, but haven't put it in yet - I was hoping to be able to assure that it WAS the problem before putting in 4 hours on that. I did also get a new return hose - just in case. I read about power steering pressure gauges for troubleshooting, but don't have one to work with. Power steering gear unit bad? Assist is fine at most road speeds, but parking lots are almost impossible. Any ideas would be appreciated!!!

It's either a bad pump of the system is pulling air into it somewhere. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
