Hi all, thanks for taking a look. I'll try to describe the issue the best that I can. I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada with about 160,000 miles that in the last two days has not been starting. It is approximately 20 to 30 degrees outside during the day. When I first try to start it the engine tries to turn(SLOWLY), and that continues for about the next three or four times I try. Any subsequent tries the turning stops and the rapid clicks begin. The lights, radio all still seem to work fine. However, yesterday I tried giving it a jump and it started IMMEDIATELY! I let it run for a bit, and an hour later it started up again on it's own. I did test the alternator or so I am told. I put a multimeter on the battery and started the car and watched the volts go from 12 something to over 14. I was told that means the alternator works, maybe it was bad advice. Also I did let the car run for about 10 minutes last night and it didn't die. Possible related issues: Sometimes the bravada drives very slowly as if it is having trouble shifting out of first gear. However - this is usually most evident after a fill up. Also, when I have about an eighth of a tank or less sometimes it will shut down as I am driving it, but have no problem starting back up once I am safely pulled over. So there must be an underlying fuel issue, maybe it is related to it not starting? If anyone has any advice or things for me to check I would very much appreciate it. Hope you're all having a great day and hopefully it is NOT the end of the world today! Thanks in advance.

How about the obvious, you have a bad battery. Have it tested. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sorry, not obvious to me or I would not be here. Easiest way to test it?

Obvious meaning, you realized the battery is dead. You tested the charging system for the battery but never tested the battery itself. Take it to and auto parts store and they will test it for free.
