2000 Ford Taurus will not start Sign In

We have a 2000 Ford Taurus Se 4 door with the 24 valve v-6. That will not start all of a sudden. First off Batt. is good, Alternator is good, and starter is also good. We were not having any starting trouble from the car. then yesterday it desided to just do nothing a couple of times. On the 3rd try it started right up. Drove the car a few blocks and it would do nothing again. After disconecting the poss battery cable and reconecting the cable, the car started right up. Drove the car about 10 mile and again we have a no start problem. At this point checked the Batt., Alternator, starter, and batt. cables. all are testing good. But still no start, not even a click. This may have no meaning but will add it in just incase? We were having a problem with the car blowing the 15 amp fuse for the Tranny / A/C under the hood. Was blowing pretty regular. A shop unhooked the a/c and we were still having the fuse blowing trouble. Finally the shop added a second fuse to the tranny solinoids right at the tranny and we have not blown a fuse since. Anyone got any ideas?

The next time this happens, you need to test for power arriving at the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid when it won't start.

What type of equipment are you using to check these circuits?

Is there any aftermarket alarms installed on the car?

Re: 2000 Ford Taurus will not start Sign In

1st check all your fuses......If those are good....... Find the starter relay in the box. You are going to have 12v on 2 legs (with the key in the start position) & ground on 2 legs....

Look at the bottom of the relay, there should be numbers 30, 87 & 85, 86........the 1st set is the load side, the 2nd is the control side......87 should have 12v on it. #30 goes to the starter and if you jump 87 to 30 with a fused jumper the starter should crank.

86 should have a ground on it and 85 should have 12v on it when the keys is turned to the start postion and it's in park or neutral.......

If you have power on 87 & 85 (in start position) and good grounds on 30 & 86, then you have a bad relay.........If one leg is missing either power or ground, then you know which circuit you need to look at.....

If that's the case maybe one of the guys would be nice enough to post a wiring diagram for you, if you don't have one...

Is the PATS theft indicator flashing or on steady when your attempting to crank the engine. PATS will disable the starter.
