2000 Toyota Camry LE 2.2L 4 Cylinder Gas DOHC 130K miles Single clack when I release the gas pedal. Passenger side, top of engine near wheel well or wheel well itself(not sure as I cant recreate the noise in park) The faster the engine is going the louder the noise. I heard a metallic grinding when going slowly with wheel turned all the way(pulling out of a parking spot). No noise when in neutral or park. When car is jacked up (accelerating with tires in free spin or with brakes on) it will not make the noise. It also would not make the noise when on the ground, brakes locked, in drive, pushing it up to 2000rpm. If I've driven it a around a bit and turn off the car the noise will rattle upon starting the engine again. Just had the timing belt replaced but I do not think the noise is coming from the timing belt area.

Having trouble following what you mean exactly? Noise/clack when started that's RPM related? Check for motor mounts, exhaust parts or just feel for anything loose that shouldn't be by hand when engine is cold???? T

The clack is RPM related. When I am driving it gives a single clack when i release the gas. The higher the RPMs the louder the clack. This morning when I took the car for a short diagnostic drive there was no clack upon starting. When I got it home, turned it off, and started it again it did clack. Upon subsquent starting and turning off it did not make the noise. Ive pushed and prodded the mount and anything I could try and nothing loose enpugh to move it by hand.

If this just began with timing belt job have the person or place take a look at their own work. If it wont do it and nothing found try what I call "brake standing" which is holding the brake, parking brake on hard and even block wheels and have a helper do this with you. Put it in gear and fight the brakes with moderation forward and backwards while watching from the SIDE not in front and in a safe place and just maybe you can pin point the noise if that makes it occur sitting still. DO NOT EVEN TRY THAT IF YOU DO NOT TRUST BRAKES, A HELPER OR QUESTION ANYTHING ABOUT DOING SUCH!!!! It is a way to watch motor mounts and things under load short of riding under the hood while someone drives it - kidding on that! That and try tapping on items with say a rubber hammer. If all fails get some help. Noises can be very elusive. This one should be found easily IMO with some experienced testing and checking, T

Haha riding under the hood crossed my mind. Fortunately common sense got the better of me. Well that and finding the actual problem before common sense came to blows with the compulsive need to solve the problem. The previous mechanic had told me he'd look at it but that it would be a week. I gave the mount a solid whack with a mallet and found the problem. One of the bolts had not been tightened down completely. Thank you for helping me out. It may have not been a major issue and could have waited a week but it gave me peace of mind.

Excellent! You seem to have found and fixed your noise. Amazing the power of a tap or whack with a mallet or rubber hammer can find. HaHa nothing, I really have ridden under a hood to find noises but not far at all. Usually we close out threads when solved but will wait a bit. If you found one bolt do check others too that might not be making a noise too just because, T
